Stephanie Plahn, the founder and Principal Psychologist at Flow ADHD, completed her Bachelors and Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology in the United States in 2007.  She began her career working with government and  large non profit organisations in underprivileged areas, working with schools and a team of specialists to support families and students with additional needs. Since moving to Australia in 2016, Stephanie has worked with organisations including  Head Space before transitioning to private practice. After recognising a need for more specialised support for ADHD, she committed her practice to improving treatment outcomes and societal perceptions of the commonly misunderstood nuances of this learning disability.  As someone who personally understands the challenges ADHD presents, she has an invested interest and knowledge that is undeniable in her personable and dynamic approach.  Stephanie has a special focus on working with athletes and professionals who are looking to advance their career and/or sporting aspirations to an elite level.

How will an Assessment benefit me or my child?

  • Psychological assessments are essential in understanding an individual's relevant background and presenting concerns in order to form a comprehensive understanding and for the purposes of diagnosis and treatment.

  • A verified diagnosis is critical in terms of identifying the best treatment options. For children, a verified diagnosis is required to obtain formal support as a part of their learning plan in school.

  • Early intervention supports better treatment outcomes for overall improved health across the lifespan.

  • Invaluable education about the impact of ADHD including tools and strategies to manage symptoms successfully.

  • Your psychologist will also provide evidence based non-medication treatment options specific to ADHD.

  • For child/youth assessments, formal school reports with individual recommendations for learning plans are provided.

  • Individual program to support your identified goals will be developed using an integrated health approach.

What is the process?

  • Initial telehealth consultation and completion of online questionnaires by the client, parent and/or teacher as applicable.

  • 2-3 follow up sessions discussing the results and treatment options and recommendations. Online tests are sourced from Pearson Clinical, considered gold standard in neurological assessments and Psychological Assessments Australia.

  • After the assessment, your psychologist will discuss ADHD therapy coaching and developing an individual program. Most programs typically involve 4-6 sessions (based on sessions covered under a MHCP). If more sessions are recommended, your psychologist may request a MHCP review and you may be eligible for a further 4-6 sessions.

  • **While ADHD coaching is not covered under a MHCP, the therapy model is based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy interventions which are covered. (The language we use at our clinic is adjusted to provide  an ADHD affirming approach to support our client demographic).

STEPHANIE PLAHN

Psychologist and ADHD Therapy Coach

Throughout my career, while I have been involved in many different areas of practice, my personal journey with ADHD combined with the rewarding opportunities I've been involved with for the past 20 years have shaped me significantly as a person and a therapist.  I believe we are led by our values and these inform our beliefs and how we navigate the highs and lows of life. The values that guide me as a therapist are inspired by my own lived experience and a response to the shared experiences of my clients:

  • Educate: Educating clients with evidence based knowledge is powerful, validating, and affirms clients to make informed decisions for their own health and well-being.

  • Equip clients with strategies, tools and resources of support.

  • Empower clients to embrace and celebrate their differences – not define themselves by their perceived limitations - but to learn to develop self-compassion and realise their capacity to unlock their true potential.

"The adversities we face in life do not define us. It's about how we respond... accepting what we cannot change, finding strength and peace through the hardships and identifying the resources we need to press forward."
